:banghead: This is a 2 part question

1. Can somebody tell me what the correct radiator would be for my 68 barracuda 340 4spd?

It doesn't have the orignal 68 340 in it its a later model motor. the rad that I have the lower hose is on the passenger side I would like to go back original. what radiator would fit from other cars?

2. Where can a person buy the complete restoration books like the ones on Grave yard cars

please PM me for any help you can provide

thanks so much

1 could be several different numbers depending if Manual or auto trans or a/c or not.
2 any a-body small block v8 radiator from 69 back should fit fine. It will be left/left in/out. IF it has the 70-up water pump/timing cover on it though that could be a problem...

We have a-bodies so we don't have the step by step resto books like the E-bodies do. There are some good reference materials out there though. The 1968 parts and service manuals would be must haves for me. They can be downloaded for free.

hey aj/forms

check your book again ... i don't think your numbers are right.

the numbers i have from my OEM 68 Chrysler Parts Catalog (Dealer Service Dept. Book) from Section 7-11-0 "1968 Passenger Car Parts Catalog" text page 7-6 states the following for "Radiator Core":

Model Code "B" (barracuda) "L" (dart) auto. or man. trans 22" core - 340 8 cyl:

standard: 2989-028
high altitude: 2949-068
air condition: 2949-068

Thanks for all your help. I am working on this car for a friend of mine he has a lot of parts cars to choose from

From Galen's book:

2898026 Manual
2898028 Auto
2898031 Auto and AC
2898032 Manual and AC

hey you smart mopar guys..

can you guys tell me if there are several "editions" of old mopar parts books out there?

i am looking right at my OEM Chrysler service manuals and the numbers i quoted for a 68 barracuda radiator are right from the 68 book.

Model Code "B" (barracuda) "L" (dart) auto. or man. trans 22" core - 340 8 cyl:

standard: 2989-028
high altitude: 2949-068
air condition: 2949-068

the same 69 edition parts book states that a 340 barracuda came with a radiator core bearing number:

2949-068

my 69 parts catalog says it's the "revised" april 1969 edition and that it supersedes book number 81-690-0785.

my 68 parts book says that it is the "1968 passenger car application section revision" and it is dated March 1969. it also says it supersedes 81-690-0736.

i know "Galen" is the mopar guru - but i do not find his numbers in either of my books.

From Galen's book:

2898026 Manual
2898028 Auto
2898031 Auto and AC
2898032 Manual and AC

i'm a lawyer and i am a stickler for accurate information. can anyone explain to me why none of the numbers being quoted for the "correct" factory radiator core for 68/69 340 barracudas are lining up?

i really want to get to the bottom of this discrepency because i rely on the parts books i have when buying parts that are suppose to be "correct."

thanks..

Galens books do have some mistakes in them. But they are really handy on the fly for reference. His bb a-body bellhousing numbers are incorrect for instance. I like you would stick with the factory books when available.

The hi-alt rad you list is a 3-core.

This is an okay restoration guide if you can get one.

I got it for Christmas about 15 years ago.

It appears to be out of print and Amazon wants $129.97 for one!

You could try Ebay.
