I have a 68 Formula S Barracuda Convertible with a 340 and the K Member cracked last summer. I had it welded in place but would like to replace. There are a few wonky issues I want to address and this is one. When I am looking for a replacement K Member, does any 68 small block Mopar K Member work or what specifics should I look for? I also have disc brakes, not sure that matters. The car is 90% stock and I am working to get it back to 100%. Any one have a beautiful one to sell and ship to CA? Thanks!

68~72 V8 is all a direct swap.

too bad you don't need a 67, i've got one holding down my shop floor! ;D

ETA: the 340/S cars had a reinforcement welded into the K, and while those do show up from time to time the chances of sourcing one are extremely slim.

Rather than replace it, unless you're not worried about keeping the car correct you can send it out and have it upgraded with better welds and gussets. I think Firm Feel does that. Others will chime in.

As mentioned any small block k will work from 68-72. 67 will work also, but 67 has provisions for a 1 year only pitman arm. That's an easy fix. Depending where yours is cracked it could be an easy fix as well. As mentioned the factory welds were pi$$poor on these. You should have whichever k you go with "redone"
Good luck! Beauty ride too!

Laracuda - I have what I believe is a 1967-1972 MOPAR A BODY K FRAME for a V8. I have it listed on the classifieds, but I believe I have it listed incorrectly. Take a look at the photos. It is not in bad shape.

while the 73+ K will fit with the correct mounts there's the consideration of the sway bar-- which the car being an S it should have-- and that doesn't fit with later K.

so understandable that OP wants to keep it OG in that regard. it being an S drop top, i'd want to keep it as complete and factory as possible as well.

Not a 67. Its idler arm bracket just has the one hole. Yours has two.

I would have the current one welded and reinforced. Which is what you should do to any replacement you get .

I have a 68’ v8 barracuda correct k member I might part with. Give to the weekend and I’ll take pictures.

Question … are Conv K-members different? Or did they use the 340 “coin” members regardless of engine ?

@Laracuda you will want to post this ad in the classified section. The mods will probably delete this post as it is not in the right place. You will also likely get more hits there anyway. Welcome aboard.

I believe what you have there is a late '69 and up 340, a body, small block K frame. Why ? Because of the "coin" or in reality just a simple washer tack welded on the front of the k frame (to identify on the assembly line) along with reinforced tube where the pivot arms go through the k frame. These are also crude half circle washer type add ons.

Will Firm Feel reinforce it and re-repair the crack? That’s seems like an option to keep it original..

Any pictures of this Crack? How bad is it ? Can it be repaired without removing it from the car ? It has lasted 55 plus years and your car looks great and I'm not so sure you need to replace or remove. I'm thinking repair it so it doesn't get worse. Of course just my thoughts you may disagree.
