Question this is my 1968 barracuda 318 factory air, 4speed, should I restore it to a classic (which I am not thrilled about) or hot-rod it out? Which would be worth more? The reason I ask, I probably already know the answer, Is that I have a 63 Fairlane hot-rodded out and having trouble recouping my investment. Some of have probably seen were I posted about not liking the 4speed. I have a 5speed in the Fairlane and would rather cruise and relax not worrying about shifting and all. So if I were to hot-rod it, I would ditch the 318, and go with a 360 or new hemi 345-390hp. pull the 4sp. and go with a strong automatic, and covert to disc brakes, white interior, viper red paint, and the biggest tires I can fit without tubing.
I know a few of you will not like this, but anything would be better than puke green. Imagine the the last photo of the black barracuda in viper red with white interior.

okay, all opinions will be carefully considered..thanks in advance!!!!

Any 4-spd car is pretty rare.Me ? I would restore it as close as possible with a few upgrades and keep all the original parts.(brakes and such)

I personally like the pro touring look myself and dont recall seeing a 67-69 barracuda done that way. Big brakes, big cubes, slightly larger wheels, maybe 16's and 17's, alter-k front suspension, maybe a 3 link in the rear? Drop it down a little and beat the hell out of it! Thats just me though and dont get me wrong, I like the pro street look as much as anything else but its your car!

I am in the same boat, I have a 67 convertible, I am going the hotrod road, you never get what you put into it.
My question is should I scratch my project and get a new Challenger?

NO! I'm betting that new Chally will depriciate a lot more than the 67 vert. Plus it has a lot more character.

lmao!!!!!!!! i have thought the same thing. sell both old cars and buy a new hot-rod!!!!!!!

but the old ones are not me too cars!!!! dilemmas!!!!

Keep it close to original for a return on your money. I would add a few upgrades for performance and looks, but keep the car as close to an everyday driver as possible. People pay good money for a car that idles, handles well, does not overheat, no headers, not too loud, and stock color is a + although I did ditch the green on mine. I am going out of those bounds on mine but not looking for a return on all my investment. I do it for the hobby and to have fun doing it.

well depends if you are going to keep it or sell it? From what i have seen custom cars usually go for the same as an all original car, but the modded car usually has 2 or 3 times as much money in it.

Well, you could trade it to me for my 99 Dakota R/T and I could remove having to make that difficult decision for you...LOL!

It's a 318 Car so Hot Rod it.If you were not so far away I would take the 4 speed stuff off your hands. Jim

Dont do either if your concern is making the car worth more.........neither will get a profitable return on your money.

I like the car and would do a sleeper, sorta streetfighter look and do the factory color

Sounds like you realy want to make yourself a nice streat machine. I say do what you want wtih it, and dont be concerned with weather or not you will make money off it. You will be MUCH happier in the end. You can enjoy your car that much more...

I'll be honest and tell you that noting stays stock in my stable, though if you restored it or just made it look great and stock, you'd have my respect for doing so.
If ya sell it to me, it'll look like that black hot rod above. Promise, I can't help myself.

The bottom line is, do what you like to do with it and don't look back or give it a second thought.

Although rare with the 318/4-speed setup, I doubt you would get the money you deserve if you restored it back to stock. Even if you did, how much money would it be? I think you should do what you really want, which seems to be making it into a hot resto-rod. I think as far as Mopars go, as long as you turn it into something clean and complete, it will be worth decent money anyway.

RESTOR ! RESTOR ! I would do because these cars are coming out of the woodwork and alot of them are just parts cars and are far from what you have . I get more people looking at my car at car show just because i have not raped it and stuffed a big *** motor in it .
well just my 2. good luck and have fun .
P.S. send more pics

You mean we aren't supposed to do that? I mean according to this book I found... :read2: Kidding of course... but really, you're going to get a bunch of responses that vary on this. It's you care, don't let us choose what to do with it =)

I`d like to see it restored, V/8 4spd. car with air. Very nice! Find a car that`s already been altered and use that as your blank palette.

If you decide to go with an automatic, I have what you need. Console, shifter, kick down linkage, pedal, etc. We could work something out for your 4 speed stuff. I'm doing the swap in my 69 as we speak. No hurry as I have the parts needed for the swap but its nice to have that 4 speed stuff around when you need it.

Which ever way you end up going with the car remember to have fun with it.

AlterK, streetlynx, 17' wheels, big brakes, new hemi... You're already changing the color to viper red, nice by the way, and the interior color, what's a few other components. No matter what you do, you're not going to get your money out of it. These are cars after all.

GO FOR IT!!!

Maybe someone has a barracuda w/auto who'd want to work out a trade with you. Seems a shame to radically change a rare 4-speed car. I say, keep it original. The green will look good, today's paint is so much shinier and richer than what came from the factory. Speaking of green, I'm envious, that's a sweet car. Esp. w/the A/C.
