68' Dodge Dart LL-1 Clive

While I have the quarter panel off, figured it was a good time to rebuild the rear quarter window glass mechanism with new rollers and such. Also with all the rust wire wheeled, sanded, Corrosealed, and primed....I just had to see what some new LL-1 might look like. Didn't spray where I'm gonna weld, nope. Oh boy, do I think I like
LL-1!

Got the cars swapped around in my shop. The Dart is now in the back of the shop sideways....ready for next step! When I'm ready it will go on the Rotisserie here.

Working on getting the last piece of the old quarter panel off, down by the rocker panel. I like working on the car in it's new spot!

Got the toughest part of removing a quarter panel off, the rocker area. Rocker is in great shape. The car was undercoated by Ma Mopar, things are looking good. Ground any surface rust off, Corrosealed it. Epoxy next. Getting closer to fitting the new quarter panel on.

^ If it were that easy...sure! I still have to put it on and off a few times while I get everything lined up. But, she's all purtied up ready for the wrestling of the quarter panel into place.

First test fit. Outer wheel well fits perfect against the new quarter. Couple more trimming areas marked. Pull it back off, trim a lil' more, test fit again. I will win!

* I thought I would bring up a Tip Jaws gave me last night at the Mopar Therapy Meeting. While your new quarter is test fit on the car and you see a tight area at your seam...instead of marking on tight area and taking it back off to grind on it....Just get your cut off saw and go down the tight area! It will cut out an 1/8" out and boom tight spot gone, Now you have the panel seam where you need it! Thanks Dave for the Tip!

Looking back, why did you cut more of the c pillar off? Looking good though.

Dave, It had rust rot holes in it just above the seam area and needs to be repaired. Also much easier with that small piece gone to finagle the quarter panel into place.

Yes about an 1" behind Ma Mopar's original door gap, you are correct. I did it the other way, removing the entire quarter on my Duster and fought the gap "way too hard". This is the better way to do a quarter swap. Live and learn!

^ Thanks Turbodart68! I'll keep plugging at it! Just about ready to start welding back in all the pieces on the drivers side. Yes for certain, Clint's car is awesome. I'll see if I can do something close to his build, but in turquoise.

Down here at my shop today, welded in the new outer wheel tub. Little epoxy primer, and some Turquoise. I know Ma never painted in here like this....I'm just readying her for the next 50 years!

Smart idea to paint that area between the rocker and the quarter.

Not painted from the factory, and that's where all the water drains from the window whiskers.

Wonder why that's such a rust prone area?

That is gonna be one purdy car when it's all nice and shiny!

Kinda boring...but needed to be done. New trunk gutter rails. Just to make sure they are in the right place, I'll fit the quarter panel back in place before these are welded in

Here was the last fitting yesterday. As you can see door hinges need a Fix it kit, big time sagging. But new quarter lines up with Ma's lines on what is left of the original quarter.
