Hit the test and tune last night at US131. First run was just a half run first second gear shakedown, and it felt great, so...

second run= .08 light
1.56 sixty'
10.99 ET
120.75 mph

third run= .05 light
1.55 sixty'
10.96 ET
120.52 mph

fourth run= .04 light
1.54 sixty'
10.89 ET
121.39 mph
I waited for tech to come shut the party down for no roll cage, but they didn't say anything so I let it fly. Had an issue with the trans pushing fluid out the vent, so I need to check that out, and also am concerned on the actual engine oil pan capacity. I changed oil before the night started and im up to 9 quarts in it now!!! anyone have any thoughts on these two issues???

Transmission issue, I cannot help with.... I know nothing about automatics.

Oil capacity, I think 9 quarts is a little much..... depending on what pan you are running. I have a deep Moroso pan, which holds 8 quarts. I hope this helps.
 
As far as cutting those lights, I think it was just a good night for me! Keep cool, and leave on the last yellow!! The car was hooking hard and leaving straight. It wanted to push through the beams, so I didn't leave with a lot of RPM's. During most test and tunes, its amazing to watch some of the staging mistakes people make. Most every run I had the other lane finish there burnout and pull ahead put both bulbs on, then sleep at the green. That allowed me to take my time and just stage at my own pace.
 
The oil pan is a milodon 30930 7 qt. pan. The engine was delivered with break in oil used on the dyno, so im not sure how many quarts it had in it. I changed oil and filter and started with 6, then 7 then 8. I ran it to a car show and a short cruise before the track and checked the oil before making the first run. The dip stick is very hard to read with the clean oil, but I added a 9th quart just to be safe. it was just to the full mark. 9 seems to be a lot of oil. everything looked good, no oil leaking or pushing out the breathers.

I know, I know, not the smartest thing to do, but this wont be a regular strip car. I just wanted to know how it runs.:headbang:

cool car and performance, i like it. What engine / axle ratio is in it?

Awesome news!!! I've been following your build thread from day one and it's bad ***! Noticed you have different front wheels in your recent picture. Can't tell from the pic, what type of wheel is it and can you post a side view of the car with the new wheels? Thanks!

Drain some oil out and it will likely pick up some power/MPH too.

I had 4'' steel fronts with the 68 dog dish caps. A buddy wanted a pair and couldn't seem to get them built so I sold them to him and went with 4.5 Cragars. Ill get some pics up soon.

I wanted to try that at the track, but didn't want to shoot from the hip not knowing exactly. The car didn't show any signs of being excessively overfull so I left it alone. Oil didn't look foamy, no lifter noise, no oil out the breathers. Anyone have any tricks to help read the dip stick?? I thought possibly painting the tip black!! I also had an issue with oil coming out the trans vent at the shutdown end of the track, so I may have a bit too much trans fluid in it also.. Only thing I did at the track was pull the air filter, and smash the gas pedal.:thumrigh:
 
How do you check your trans fluid? Do you check it in gear or in neutral? Should be at operating temp for a while. Warm it up, run through the gears, check it. Then, take it for a quick ride and re-check. You will usually need to add a quart or more. You can be off a lot - like a quart or two if you don't check it at the right temp. If you put the full amount in, warm it up, check it then forget it you will be over. You probably know that already though.

On the oil - do you have the correct dipstick? 9 quarts sounds like too much. Car sounds like it runs OK but like said above, you could pick up with less oil.
 
Yes, I check the trans in neutral, but it probably wasn't up to temp when I checked it. ill get that done when im under the hood next. As far as engine oil, its the dip stick installed by the builder and looks like a nice part, it doesn't appear to be a cheapy chineez unit. With clean oil its very hard to read and has the dreaded different level depending on what side you look at. 7 qt pan, and filter would be 7.5 qts ish... Im reading 1/2 qt low on the front side of the dip stick with 9 in it. I have several old dip sticks so I may try a couple of those to double check. Obviously 9 has to be too much.

If trans fluid is pushing out of the dipstick (which I think is what you were saying) then the easiest fix it to get the NHRA required locking dip stick (check your rule book).

Eh…you did see that there wasn’t a double “O” at the beginning of those right? A 0.08x light will put you on the trailer in a hurry, a 0.008 light is another story. Not bashing the OP, just an observation. Not bad for a first time out with a new combo.

Im assuming its a stock type dip stick. I think your correct with the 8 qts and put a new mark on the dip stick.

I think that's exactly where im at. 10 qts would put it at full. ill have to crank the torsion bars up to support that much oil!!!

Being a foot brake car, I think youd be lucky to cut double .00 lights
