I've owed my Dart for almost 20 years. Worked on it off and on and this looks like the year for the Dart. A friend was over looking at it because he is going to do the bodywork on it. He noticed the door latch jam stud had welds around it that doesn't look factory. Both sides are the same. Is this common or did someone try to beef it up for drag racing?

Very common rust spot. Yes, it looks someone did their best to repair it or beef it up.

These guys have the fix you need. Very easy to install, and comes with step by step instructions. FYI, there is a separate Drivers & Passenger part number.

Rust isn't the issue here. The door hinges wear, the door rides on and bounces on the latch post. The sheet metal cracks right at the washer diameter. Someone added scab layer of metal to yours.

I'll be willing to bet that if the current door hinges are not worn & sagged that a PO had that problem. Usually the driver door is the first to go, but I've seen some where both sides have been repaired.

Looks like you should get a couple of these repair panels...
