69 dart headliner question

I have a 69 dart and I need to re do the headliner but I have no idea what it had and what it needs.

There is cardboard up there right now and it seems as if that looks like it was. however when I pull back the cardboard I see the vinyl behind it. I dont have any of the headliner bows. I prefer the vinyl look.

If I use the headliner with the bows do I need the cardboard? How was it originally? Through my research it seems it was one or the other? What goes behind/under the vinyl if I use the vinyl with the bows?

They never had cardboard nor was their anything between the roof and the headliner. You will need 5 specific headliner bows, the clips that hold them in place, of course the headliner, and 2 metal wires for the rearward bow. If you search the forums, installation instructions/tips can be found for assistance.

There should be insulation about an inch thick between the headliner and the sheet metal.
