WOW. I am starting my 8.75 swap in my '75 Scamp. I want to use the packing plates from the 7.25. I can not remove the axle. No clips on these according to my '75 FSM, How the hell do you get these off? I am still working on the left side. Seems pressed in - I know it isn't.
I removed the 5 flange nuts. I put an old drum on backward and bolted her down. I have SLAMMED this with a BFH. HELP.

Rent or borrow a slide hammer,
but this diagram shows a C clip unless they changed through the years:

I appreciate the help guys, but according to my 1975 factory service manual, there is no clip or screw. I looked inside after I removed the housing cover, all I can see is about 1/16 of the end of the axles coming through.

Where would this screw be?

if you spin the centersection , there should be a 7/16 head or a square headed bolt that retains the centerpin, this will be right in front of you .you have to spin the planetary to find it. the big centerpin is what is stopping the axle from being pushed in. once you get those out, you can push the axle in and remove the C clips, and slide the axles out

A 7.25 is a 7.25 is a 7.25. They ALL have the center pin retained with a pin bolt. If you get a factory service manual it shows a great pic of it.

Look just above the carrier. "Shaft" and "bolt". Plain as day.

its ashame they dont show it going through the pinion gears where it really located and not on top of the case. for someone who has never taken one apart, it can be confusing

Once you take one apart you will understand.Where it says shaft-that slides out of the carrier after you take the bolt out of the shaft. It's simple,if I can do it-you can!!!

I'll have to take a clear pic tomorrow and post. That diagram above is not the same as the diagram in my '75 service manual....

this is NOT a 7 1/4 but the same idea

When you look at your differential, does it have this pin, or no?

Well as it appears in my repair manual, the 1971 - 82 7.25 rears do NOT use c clips. The axles are retained exactly the same as an 8.75 rear and must be removed with a slide hammer after unblolting the retainers of course.

Ok, here is a pic of the diff in my 1975 Scamp 7.25 rear. There are no "C" clips, and it is not necessary to remove that center shaft to remove the axle. The center shaft is held in by a pin, not a screw. Look at the screw location, there is a pin, as the factory service manual shows (no pic of manual, lol).
I rented a "Powerbuilt axle puller" from Advance auto parts.
6 - 7 slams and out came the axle.

there you have it...glad you got it. tells you how much i know about the 1975 7 1/4 lol sorry about the confusion

Hey 73AbodEE, No, no, no!
Thank you and all the other guys for the responses!!!

I am learning new info as I am going. I truly appreciate all the feedback.

You guys on here kick ***! :prayer:

I just disassembled (2) 7.25 rear ends. One was a 67 model and the other was a 75 model. On both the axles just pulled out. (no Clips) And on the carrier there is a roll pin that held in the crosspin no bolt. You could remove it after you removed the ring gear.

Aloha guys! I'm currently in a bind with my 7.25...it has NO Adjusters in it. Maybe never had? The caps don't have the middle bolt hole either for the lock on the adjuster too.
roadrunnerh~ mahalo for the pics it helped me out.

I wanted to ask you guys...I've got bearings for the axles but the seals don't look like they will fit. plus no gasket for the axle.

Where did you get your rebuild kit from?

mahalo Mike
