so im gettin a 360/904 combo soon, but a friend of mine wants to sell me a 727 since they are bullet-proof(hes swapping it out for a 4spd, win win haha)

from what ive been told here, the 904 would be easier to jus swap in and it takes less hp from the motor 2 turn the driveline. ive also heard id have to rework the cars body to fit the 727

is there truth 2 this? or could i simply hook up the 727 2 the 360 an install it in 2 my car w/ no problems (haha...no problems...dnt that sound funny?)

i know the 727 is a better tranny, but i cant afford refabbing my car. thnx!

dropped a 360 with a 727 in my 1970 duster without any major modifications.. do you have a /6 k memeber or a v8 k member... I had a /6 and the only modification I had to make was for headers... and I had to get a firewall transmission dipstick... but everything else mounted up great.... oh and I had to shorten my driveshaft... for my 8 3/4

thats my plan. 360/727 with 8 3/4 suregrip. my car is a stock /6 so i must have a /6 k member. so no major modding at all? how long did it take for you to do the swap? and what kind of cost was it to shorten the driveshft?

I would consider the 904 if less weight and less reciprocating mass are something u are interested in. U might get lucky also the 904 could be the one with the lower first gear. If ur on a budget like I am u could use the stock /6 driveshaft and just shorten it. Unless you are building a brute 360, the 904 will be more than adequate. Also I was told you can use a stock /6 904 converter in your V8 904 which will give about a 1800 stall speed.

got the engine swap kit for around 100. forgot exactly it was a few years ago... and the drive shaft was 80 from a local machine shop.. took one day... for the drive shaft and about two hours for the motor swap once everything was there..

cars gonna be a daily driver. so i spoze 904 would be fine. also whats 1500 stall? haha stall converters are over my head

true. i just heard that the 727 was better, but that also means idk how strong the 904 is. just wanted a 2nd opinion. as long as the 904 works under 280hp im fine

I used to run 727's but they're kinda overkill for a A body, they are stronger but a good 904 is worth almost 2/10's on the average 13sec car.

One of my friends swapped to a 904 in his 340 swinger when it was running 11.60's and went in the 11.40's the next time out, it runs 9.80's now and still has the same 904 in it- just gets freshened up every 2 years.
