Can anyone tell me if Plymouth offered a 1970 duster with a slant 6 and a 3 speed on the floor. perhaps as an option. I had one way back in 1974 or 1975, I assumed it was factory, but have not been able to find one to restore. thanks

Not sure but I do know my 70 duster was born with a /6 and a 3 speed. My confusion comes from the fact that the car has a four speed hump on the floor that appears to be factory based on the welds. However, the steering column that was in the car looks like it was a 3 speed on the tree, based on the hole in the one cone part of it.

Problem with this car is it appears to be a collection of parts put together as there are several things that just don't add up on it!

Yes, I owned one. slant 6 with a 3 speed on the floor and a bench seat

There was a red one in Cali for sale a couple weeks ago. Factory slant 6, 3 speed on the floor. I've personally had 2 or 3 as well. They are around, just not in abundance as they once were.

the three speed was available on the column or floor mounted but the floor mount cost a little more $. The floor three speed was available with slant six all the way to the 340. My duster is a 340 car that came factory with a three on the floor.

A three on the floor is more fun than a three on the column that jams up

Same as yellowdart,My 70 340 Duster was a 3 speed on the floor.Back then Insurance companies came down hard on musclecars. The way to get around it was to offer a 3 speed (And it showed up in the vin number) for some reason the insurance companies gave better rates for a 3 speed. What did we do ? Go to the wrecking yard and get a 4 speed with a hurst shifter for a $100. Those were the days,, of course we were making a $1 a hour back then too..

that is exactly what i had,,, slant 6 - 3 on the floor and black pleated bench seats.

But what trans was it ? I’ve been told many times the a903 can not and was never floor shift

My uncle had a 70 with three on the three slant 6..its funny the arguments i get in when i say that 340 could be had with a three speed...LOL! I think it was standard one year on the 340 swinger 69 maybe...3 speed standard 4 speed optional.

I can clear some of this up...... First there is no such thing as a 'four speed hump' since the A-230 3-speed with floor shift used the same hump.

The A-903 has no mounting bosses for a floor shifter, these were column shift only.

The A-230 was also available with 383 4-bbl engines in B and E bodies and in trucks too, but the truck version was column shift only.

1970 & newer /6 floor shift 3-speed cars were made, some are also 4-doors, but they seem to be fairly scarce. Even scarcer with a V-8.

For anyone wondering what their 1970 up 3-speed car came with for a transmission, what is the transmission code on your fender tag, broadcast sheet or other original document?

Yes. I have a friend with a couple in his back yard. To expound on the A230 even further, they were also available in C bodies. I have a dedicated A230 bellhousing that decodes to a C body. Think about that a minute. What was it? A floor shifter C body? A column shifter C body? I think either would have been just as unusual, but I have the bellhousing nonetheless.

My '71 broadcast sheet :
Line 2 : trans code is D13 (3-spd manual trans on floor)
Line 4 : trans code 821

Does 821 mean A230???

Maybe a clue here :
a230 id
