That's rippinThere is guy South of me that made 787 HP with a pump gas 451.
Before he retired, we had frequent earthquakes on dyno day. lol
We could feel it up here in the LC valley.

You can make good hp at low CR though, go big is one way, as an example>Thats too bad because he gave up quite a bit believing pump gas CR doesnt matter and the chart that shows a 1-2% gain from raising the CR from say 10:1 to 11:1 which isn’t true.

An engine my other mate bought for his street/strip RR
589ci, 10:1, CP between 185>190psi, 365CNC -13's, small s/roller, 260/[email protected], .625/.625" on 110
440-2, 950HPDP. 695hp@5500-5900.
But I will say that if it was 12.5:1 with a healthy 730+" [email protected] roller
it would be around the 800hp mark, wouldn't work for street though too good.
I know you didn't, I agree with your CR theory, its just an example of how you can do it on low cr when you do not have a full on race engine designed. It all comes down to use. Although it can still be done on high cr if you pick the right cam for some street use as Dom and others have shown within reason, we can all put up with a full on race motor for a while on the street but this thread is about a street/strip build, down to the owner as always and where his mentality is.I never said you can’t are power with a compression ratio that low. But why give up power?
In your example, that engine at 11:5.1 would make another 40-45 HP. Seems like a no brainer to me.
EDIT: not to mention power under the cure and driveability. There is way more to compression ratio than just horsepower. And it kills me to say that because horsepower is KING.

Jim's ( IQ52) 451 made 787HP with 9.5:1 comp
and ported Edelbrock heads on pump swill.
Me tooWow, would love to hear the build spec’s on that! Impressive.
wonder if it ever went down a track?
