Glutton for Punishment
Has anyone tried to repaint the woodgrain on their non-ralleye instrument panel inserts? How did you do it? How did it turn out? Are the woodgrain vinyl appliques any good?
The chrome plating on my inserts is trashed and I have found a reasonably good "paint" to address those areas. The previous owner had tried to use an aluminum paint to replicate the plating, but in the process, got some of the paint up into the woodgrain due to poor brush control. There are also some minor surface blemishes I'd like to fix if I can. Since I have to do a ton of masking anyway, I thought that I would check into trying to replicate the original woodgrain.
