71 Duster 360 (new project)

Got the car up on the lift.....all the tranny hooked up..driveshaft in....converter bolts in...starter in...passenger side headers on....

need driver side header intalled....it is in the engine compartment...oil filter...tranny fluid...and few other small things,,,couple of days...
 
Finished up the odd and ends......got a loose fitting on carb to tighten...other wise it ready to see if the trans works...lol
 
ok.....so far so good....engine fired....transmission is turning the wheels as it should.....have not check the transbrake as I was by myself......

Duster is leading candidate to head to Fallon next weekend
 
Trip to Top Gun Raceway is cancelled....Stocker friend said he did not want to go.....cancel room reservations today...
 
Since the last post on June 2, the transbrake did not work...the solenoid was bad....swapped out valve bodies.....ordered a couple of solenoids for spares....

Fire it up this morning as I got to get going on other stuff...hit button in neutral the car backs up...hit button in 1st gear the car goes nowhere.....working like it is suppose to...
backed car out and put in trailer.....NEXT...

Need to move 71 Dart from 4 post to 2 post lift....and put the 75 duster on 4 post....roll bar time...
 
trans worked until she did a burn out...then no workie.....every gear except park the car starts and is in 1st gear.......been trying to fix the same trans over and over....

just got my spare transbrake back so another trans is going back in....it has been waiting for the brake since I dropped it and broke a piece off....plus got a spare solenoid...
 
and the beat goes on...you have persistence! I'd probably have thrown the wrench in long time ago.'course, last time I did that it came back and beaned me. Hence, that IS the last time I threw the wrench in.
 
well...my daughters like to race....dad does not care if he does or not....dad still like to work on the cars....kids cars get priority for repairs...lol
I will start on this one this week...spare trans on table only needs valve body.....got it back with spares ...
 
weather cooling off this week.....hope to have this one done by the end of week....swap out trans...again.
 
Got car up in the air...got everything underneath disconnected....should be able to get all out tomorrow....trans fluid stunk....
 
engine is ready to come out ...would have done it this afternoon but had too many people there to help....I work best alone...
 
Had a very good day....started by finishing up the 904 by installing the transbrake...filter ..and pan...double checked the band adjustments...and air checked the servos and clutch pacs,,,,this my old transbrake i bought back in 1993....I had dropped it and broke a piece of the casting off that holds the roster comb on....just got it back repaired last week.

well...got the engine and old trans out....unbolted....swapped over the parts needed...installed TA 4200 series converter...and got it put back in car in about 3 hours.....had a dinner date....lol

Got everything done except putting on the driver side headers.....i need to make a walmart run and get some ATF...pretty sure I dont have enough...
 
Could not believe how easy the driver side headers went on.....something else must be up....
Bought 10 qts of ATf 4....walmart only had 4 qts of Type 7....so oh well...knew I should have ordered it on line a couple of days ago
Put 8 qts in it....fired up.....set timing....reset idle .....ok....look under car....well there was my something else...
rear hose from cooler was leaking.....and the dam fitting was stripped...my screw up....had to remove hose...remove fitting from trans with extractor...put in new fitting...installed hose....tightened and no leakie...
Daughter wants me to move tach....so that is .....
 
found something to do....changed shock setting on the DA shocks...started car up to check transfluid....had to add a qt........engaged transbrake...no move forward...release...it moves forward....put shifter in neutral engage transbrake it moves backwards....Ok...was going to put in trailer tomorrow...but going to move tach if the bracket get here as scheduled...
 
LOL...been a long week....hook the trailer to the motorhome...move it into position.......load the brown duster on to a open car trailer...park it so I can wash it on the trailer...walk in garage and realize that this duster in not in the trailer...LOL
 
Came home with a broken trans again.....trans is going over to a friend to have him look at these things...

seems like the direct clutch pac is burned up...
