Guess I should start a build thread too. I started a little while back and I will post a few pics each week to bring us up to where we are right now. It started with a $600 driving car that was 95% rust free! (95% or better). 318 V8 auto with basically no interior and a few "problem" areas. Nothing like most of you deal with, but my first restoration on my own vehicle. Let me know what you think ;). By the way, it is wet so it looks a little better in these pics.

nothing like a little H2O to make your car look prettier. :)

Nice base. I dig it.

Great choice I have a '73 Scamp. I am the same way, I picked it up a year ago. Doing things here and there to it. Taking my time.. some then and now pics.

Thats one of my dream cars. I would like to find one to put my 71 360 in and do a factory "what if" car.

Welcome to the site. I had a 71' B5 blue, 318, auto, myself. Granted it was in 1976 and i only had it for a few months. Didn't realize how valuable it would be now days......lol. Good luck with refinements and i'll definetely be watching.

Nice find.Doing a 72 Scamp,as a wannabee 360 wedge clone.

Thanks to all! I have plans for this car as a neat semi daily driver and want to keep it close to an early 70's style but with some modern comforts. The main thing is to keep it drivable. No crazy horsepower or torque numbers here (for now) the main concern is something that can contend with the average mustang or camaro, but not kill my wallet doing so. And I want to smoke the skins on occasion but also take it out of town now and then. Here are a few pics of some add-ons and a list of what has been done so far (to date with the posted photos).

Cheapo Flat black hood job
318 2bbl
2.5" duals ran from manifolds back with a set of Flowmasters
Completely new fuel system (all lines, tank, pump etc.)
Basic tune up
60's style ET's
Rebuilt 904
8.25 rear with 3.23's and large bolt pattern axles
KYB Shocks all corners and all new poly bushings and some shackles (I know but they used 'em in the 70's and they are staying for now) Junkyard bench seat to make it drivable, and a brake job.
Swap meet grille in great condition
She runs great!

By the way it is amazing what a little elbow grease and a few afternoons will do for a $150 set of wheels. The tires are BFG's I got from a Year One burnout competition with my trans am a little while back. Good to be going on a Mopar and not a GM!

Finally at the shop! I jumped on this car as quick as possible once it got to the shop since this time of year is kind of slow anyways. I've got a great bodyman working on it and I'm really just doing the minor stuff along with all the dissasymbly. It pays to be good friends with people that know what they're doing so they can check your work. Here's a couple of pics after just a few days. Oh also for those of you that don't know, take a look at the left quarter and know that if you look for problems, you will usually find them. This is a typical 70's repair job/butcher job on the quarter that was caked with boddy filler almost 1" thick. The body had to be pulled to realign the quarter and all the holes were welded closed and the metal smoothed. The onlt reason for filler is to fill sandscratches. THAT IS ALL IT IS DESIGNED FOR!! The damage on the quarter also explains the nasty welds on the striker that will be fixed as well.

Here's a few pics of the striker I was talking about, but an easy enough fix.

nice looking scamp was that the one on craigslist forsale awhile back in braselton? my brother had one just like it B5 blue

If you mean a while back as in about 2 years ago then yes. I've had the car since 2006 but I didn't get started on it until just recently. (been working on my other 71...It's a roadrunner). But I am very glad I didn't sell as this will be a lot more streetable than my other. As you can see from the above photos the original color here is GY3 Curious Yellow though. Wouldn't mind meeting up after this thing is finished too. Always cool to ride with other Mopars!

Ok, so got some more body pics and I'm repairing everything. Nothing to be replaced so far as nothing has too much rust. Welding up a few pieces that had some, but no new sheetmetal here. I think it says more for the car if it ALL was built at the same time. I'm sure something will come up, but not at this point.Should be able to upload a few pics in primer, at least epoxy prime to seal in all the work in a few days!!! I'm super excited and hopefully I will be able to drive it soon! I'm planning on having it drivable by May. Still got a long way to go though.

A little more work done. A couple of days between each and now after the epoxy just to cover the work and protect it, I had my painter spray some POR 15. I love this stuff! Also I let it cure and sprayed some high build primer. Not looking forward to the hours and hours and hours of sanding, but It will be worth it. Plus I hear that this evercoat sands really well. Nice to see the car in one color again. Well, at least most of it.:D

I sort of have a love hate relationship with my car right now. I LOVE seeing progress, but I HATE sanding. Got both quarters done for right now and still need to do the roof and valances, along with the doors and fenders, hood, decklid, rear body, engine bay etc. Still a long way away from paint, but I hope to knock out the jambs and re-prime this weekend. Ill be going with a light gray primer that will act like a sealer, but this way I wont have any hard lines between the jambs and the exterior since the primer sands easy and a little overspray from the jambs will actually act as a guide coat. Heres a few shots of guide coat and a couple days worth of sanding does. Thank God I work at a bodyshop and can work on my own car every day a few hours. Got to start thinking about color!!!:D

By the way, I'm sorry I have such a one tract mind. Thanks to all who are staying posted. The support keeps me motivated! You guys rock!

Whew! I never realized how much sanding and sanding and sanding...and sanding it takes. Got another "final" coat of primer on the car, and started my seam sealer. Motor is on the stand and awaiting a refreshen, and a couple of pics of a toy for myself. I will be staying with the 8.25 for now and here is the lsd unit. Also, I have decided on the color... My fiance helped pick and I really think it will look awesome. Here is a hint if you can figure it out:blob:

So I was undecided about color, kept saying since it was a special order GY3 I should go back to original, but I also wanted an orange mopar, and then the unthinkable happened. My fiance suggested lets go look at new car colors. I decided to take her up on it since having her involved is a HUGE plus. (She no longer wonders where the money is going...jk) We found a color I thought I would never like. I got the color code and chip book and set down with my painter and we tweaked it a little to make it resemble a color that would appear period correct, and it turned out great! let me know what ya think. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics. I'll get some better ones later. All the jambs are done and ready for reasymbly. BTW the pics don't do it justice. Everybody who sees it thinks it's candy apple green (good early seventies color).
