71 V24 Duster

I believe it was. Unfortunately the door is primed, and at the paint shop. Not sure what I did with it. I do believe it was an early build date car.

Will do. I believe the car was stripped. A fellow from Canada crossed the border to buy the car, but ran into issues trying to get it across the border. Because of the hassel, he paid for the car and stripped it at the owners place and brought the parts back. I bought most of the stuff from Kijiji when he abandoned his project.......Or so the story goes.

It’s been awhile but I have replaced the inner fenders with AMD replacements as I was not happy with the patch panels. I should have just done the full replacements in the first place. It was a very straightforward repair. I’ll be painting the engine compartment in the next couple weeks. I was waiting to get the curtain updraft paint booth installed in my shop to paint. I have also bought a trick flow set of heads and the track heat intake and Harland sharp 1.6 roller rockers.

I got the engine compartment primed tonight and will spray the color tomorrow. First thing I’ve sprayed in my new paint station. It worked really well but the fan did suck the curtains in a bit so I’ll have to put some 2x4s at the bottom next time and I did see quite a bit of heat loss. My shop went from 71 to 57 degrees in about 20 minutes. I’ll bring in some supplemental heat sources for tomorrow.

I got the color on. I have a few spots that I need to do some paint correction on but overall it turned out good. I am happy with the color match.

I see you painted the blower motor and retaining ring body color. As I recall, that wasn't factory. Thoughts?

I haven’t decided if I will mask it and paint it semi gloss black or not. The 422 cubic inch small block going in this car certainly isn’t factory either.

I decided to upgrade the top end of the 422 with trick flow 190 heads and a track heat intake. I decided on the 1.6 Harland Sharp rockers. Cam is 612/612 and 240/240@50. Waiting on push rods now.

Love the paint station, is there any way you can slow the exhaust fan down some on smaller jobs to help from pulling curtains in and taking your heat outside? I am not an expert at painting, also you probably know more about it then I.

most 'professional' booths have an intake filter area that is 2 times the size of the extraction filter area. that would stop the issue you have with the curtains 'sucking' in.
neil.

Well in a 32x40 pole barn with my lift on one side this unprofessional booth will have to suffice….

i meant your intake filters may not be big enough was all. your booth is just right
neil.
It doesn’t have any intake at all. I knew that was a downfall but I was spraying in an inflatable booth and it was just a pain to set up and take down. I will have some playing around to do with this one to make it work as good as it can. It does move a lot of air and does a good job of keeping dirt out of the painting area and overspray out of the rest of my shop.

the reason for intake filters is any dust won't get sucked in from around the edges. maybe once your curtains are weighed down you could wet the floor all round the edges. then any air being sucked in won't have any dust in it. i wasn't having a dig at your setup, i was trying to help. i've had some experience flatting bits out of fresh paint so......
neil.

It dawned on me tonight that I have never sat down and fully decoded the fender tag on my car. I have all but two codes which are U and H1B. I think the U may be the order code. It seems odd to me that there are so many bare bones options yet others like the FJ6 paint with white longitudinal and transverse stripes with the black vinyl top and the floor mounted cassette with AM/FM radio.

"U" is built to USA specifications.
H1B is H code (340 engine) 1-1971 and B is for Hamtramck Plant.
