72 duster Build progress

-
Wow your tail panel and rear lights look awesome. The interior looks great too! Alittle late to the show but hey your car looks great!

Hey better late than never I say lol.

Thanks!

the interior is about 95% done....I need to install a glove box liner, make my speaker shelf board and both interior sail panel boards and THEN its pretty much done.

And yup...I had fun (not) installing the tail panel and quarter panels and rebuilding the trunk floor.....I am just glad that stage is over with.

now I just need to wrap up the body work so I can get some primer squirted on it!......just waiting for the extra time when I am not so busy with my day to day stuff.

hey guys.....not much to update on.

its been in the high 90's for awhile (real temp of like 107) and HUMID ......so I have not been out in the garage much.

BUT I did manage to finally install my stainless braided throttle cable and did a tiny bit of body work.....so I guess some progress is better than no progress lol.

now I am hoping to have it in primer by the end of september because of all the stuff I have had on my plate and then having to wait on this heat wave to pass....it has really hindered the amount of work I had hoped to have had done by this point.

waiting for the temps to come down and then ill start getting more stuff done.

I do not blame you at all this temp is killing everyone. I find it hard to go into my garage because it may be 105 outside but the garage feels like about 120.

I think we are all waiting for cooler weather.

Well, I just read your entire thread. Very good work your doing. Just keep your head up it"ll all turn out allright.

Yea.. the heat wave (among other things) is pretty much killing progress on the buggy as well my friend.. I did manage to block the drivers side again last night... lost 10 pounds doing it LMAO (ok, not really but it felt that way).. probably gonna wait til the heat breaks just a little bit before trying the passenger side..

Man ....you got some balls lol.

I cant do it....this heat is to dang much.

Ill walk out to the garage thinking I might still get something done....then say WOW screw this and go back inside where the A/C is lol.

body work in hot heat sucks because your sweating all the time and then all the bondo dusts collects on your skin and then it turns to mud lol.

I have been hoping to do stuff at night when its cooler but its still in the 80's plus I can't run my sander or anything and make a bunch of noise because I don't want to make the neighbors mad.

my grass is brown because we have had all sun and no rain!

if it would stay in the low to mid 70's I would be fine with that.

Thanks for taking the time to read my thread and thanks for the nice words.

Amazing work so far. Cant wait to see the completed interior

Thanks.....yup interior is pretty much done other than interior cardboard sail panels and speaker shelf panel......its close enough to being done though that I am not worried to much with putting my attention in other areas of the build.

I had balls til I sweated them right off LMAO!! .. yeah I was a bondo mud mess last night.. with the sweat it turned to like a paste which was extra irratating on my neck and face.. but oh well.. its supposed to stay in the mid to upper 90's with a heat index over 100 for the next several days.. So, I think the Dart is just gonna sit.. While I stay in the AC as well.. Hope to get some pics up again soon, as I havent updated my thread for a couple weeks.. life does have a way of stepping in the way of hot rod progress doesnt it? lol...

I hear ya...it sure does.

Im doing everything but the stuff I wanted to get done (plus the occasional sitting around and doing absolutely nothing lol).

well whatever you do....don't over heat yourself buddy and be sure to drink lots of water!.

Ill get back on the duster soon hopefully once this heat lets off a bit.

I know what you mean on the heat! I pulled the dart out to go threw all my parts and check few things out. Sweating every where!

Hasnt been any activity in this thread in nearly a month and a half now.

sorry guys for not getting any updates posted....but not really anything to post.

We ran into a really rough financial patch for a bit so I wasnt able to use the computer or do any work on the duster.

anyhow.....we ended up moving to a new house that is cheaper per month .....nicer house in a nicer area and nicer school district, more rooms which is a plus with the new baby on the way.

only real downside is ......no garage. BUT my parents only live litterally 2 minutes up the road and I have full use of their garage which was empty...so Ill my tools and duster went there so I can continue to work on it!

so......we still have some un packing to do and what not.....but within the next couple weeks probably I will try to start getting some updates on the duster for everyone.

Awesome news!!! I am glad that things are getting better.. things here are still kinda rough, but hopefully my wife goes back to work this month, then it will get better... I cant wait to see some Duster updates... I actually have some updating to do with the buggy thread... welcome back my friend

any updates? Hope things are going well...

Same here

Hey guys, sorry I have not posted any updates.

things are still financially up in the air so I have not done anything to the duster other than put a tarp on it to keep the elements from getting to it.( I havent really been able to do any actual work on the duster in almost 4 months now :sad7:)

I was really hoping to be in a better financial situation by this point so I could get some progress done on the duster and at the least have the body work done and primer done so all that would basically be left to do is paint it.....and I wanted to get most everything done before our baby girl arrives because I am not sure how much free time I will have after that.

but sometimes life takes the wheel and you have got to take a back seat. lol

Ill TRY to get some stuff done with the duster eventually and start updating the thread again but it might be a bit, with all the stuff I have had going on lately.

hopefully after the holidays there won't be so much strain on the wallet and I cant get some stuff done......but then I have to deal with old man winter and working in the cold sucks HAHA.

Thanks for checking in though guys.

Checking in is what friends do lol.. I am glad things are holding fairly steady for ya.. and I am sure you will be able to get back on the Duster before ya know it... Your right though, sometimes life does the driving and you just have to be a passenger.. Keep in touch!

well....I spoke to soon guys.

I JUST got home from a quick run to the gas station 3 miles up the road in our Jeep when all of a sudden a CHIME went off.....I looked down and there was no oil pressure at all. so I pulled over and checked the oil and it was full......so I had to limp it back home.

there was no knocking that I could hear....and I could get oil pressure to come back up aslong as I kept it above 1500 rpms but below that it would flatline......and when I opened my oil cap I had a light gray sludge all over the inside.....no over heating or anything either,no smoke out the exhaust or anything.

so yeah....I thought I would share that pretty awesome information.....if it wasnt for bad luck I wouldnt have any at all, I swear.

just when I thought we were going to start getting a grab on the financial situation we are in ....something like this happens.....and plates and insurance are due just around the corner and christmas also.

sorry for unloading guys....it JUST happened and is still fresh on my mind and I am PO'ed and frustrated ....

Think positive and positive will come out. I'm sure you caught it just in time to save your jeep at cheaper than a new engine

if you need a guage, i have a auto meter mechanical oil pressure guage you can have for free. you just need to get the line for it.

Thank plot for the offer but I ended up getting it all figured out! ( THANKFULLY) .....the link I posted in my last post explains what I found and how i fixed it.

Thank you again for the offer though. your a good man.

Glad the jeep is all fixed up dude.. and glad it wasnt something catastrophic...

Nothing to update on the duster :-(....

Got it put away in the garage over at my parents house....so atleast it is out of the weather.

just hopped on fabo and checked out a couple of peoples resto threads and seen how they take a car from ruins to picture perfect in a month or two's time.....kind of depressing lol. Would be great if I had the money to speed up the process.

But for now, ill keep day dreaming on what I want to get done on it and what it will look like all done but its going to be a long process still.

Hopefully after the holidays money won't be so tight and ill get a chance to get some stuff done on it before our little girl arrives.

I would like to get the body work finished over the winter and have it painted in the spring.

other than that im looking at moslty buttoning up odds and ends (couple interior pieces, kick down cable, restoring grille, beauty rings for my wheels, rear tires, exhaust tips, installing the side stripes, door and trunk seals) and id like to get a 6 pack hood eventually but we will see when the time comes.

And its looking like I am going to need a new fuel pump for it...so Ill either get a good mechanical or ill install an electric pump (kind of want to stay mechanic......im the type that is "the less wiring there is under the hood and the more simple things are....the more I like it" the gas tank has some crud in it so ill eventually drop it and clean it out. And when I took it on its first actual "drive" when I moved to my new house I noticed the rear end was making some noise so ill probably have to pull the center section and give it an inspection (it leaks anyhow so I already planned on getting into it eventually).

so.....I still have a good bit of work to do on it.....sure it further along than when I originally bought it....but sitting here thinking it has taken me almost 3 years now to get to this point! is a bit depressing.....I hope I can get it done soon so I can just drive it and enjoy it and not have to worry about how or when I can get stuff done on it.

I havent had much time to be on fabo the last few months and I miss talking with all you guys and seeing what you have going on with your cars....so I hope to be on a bit more.....just things have been rough the last few months and I have been trying to get caught up and waiting for things to settle down some.

anyhow....this post really isnt very informative I guess, just me rambling on lol.

BUT as soon as I do start making progress on the duster again....you guys can be sure ill keep you up to date on it!
