I just figured out that I have a 1978 -- 727 non electronic lockup (yes non electronic) transmission that was behind a 1969 383 HP 335 horse (roadrunner motor) I'm using the stock built 383 motor with mild cam in my Valiant project running 3.55 rear Anybody have any experience with one Are these lockup tranny's any good

I spoke with A & A Transmission and they said these are good being a regular 727 but they have a pump to lock up the torque converter which happens around 35 - 45 MPH BUT the good news is that they can provide a higher stall converter 2200 -2400 that will work on the tranny without the converter lock up feature it would be like a regular torque converter for around $400 not to bad

.............only problem the l u has shorter splines and strip out the converter splines......but converters have come along way since then, it may not be an issue anymore.......or u could change the appropriate parts to make it a non l u........kim......

Why? Lockup is a good thing! You read the a500 into a duster thread? They use the same parts, it's behind 450LB/TQ, so yeah, they work fine. I wish I would have kept mine.

Enjoy the lockup. No problem on the converter either. You can get just about any stall you want and still retain the lockup function. And if you are concerned about the splines in the converter slipping, your converter supplier should be able to build you a converter with steel splines, not the powdered metal splines a stock converter has. Company I used to work for did this all the time.
