Im currently thinking of rebuilding my trans this winter!
I have been looking around for rebuild kits but i dont really know what to go for! My car sees alot of street and also sees strip use!

Ive been looking at Hughes performance rebuild kits and those offered with Kolene steels. Link to kit
What should i go for? This is a street car that want a stout 727. What else should be exchanged than those things that come with a rebuild kit? Or is the rebuild kit enough?

How much differnce does an aftermarket manual/automatic valvebody do? I dont want a manual vb as it sees more street than strip. But does aftermarket vb:s do much differnce to shifting?

My engine has been dynod to 420hp.

Cheers!
Chris

Most stock parts are well up to the task of handling 400 - 500 horsepower with ease. The high performance clutches and steels are nice insurance though. However what ever else needs to be replaced will have to be determined after teardown and thorough inspection. Chances are though that if it's working good now it won't need much.

As for the valve bodies, well, if you have the money but lack the expertise to modify one then they are a bargain and in some cases are better than even an experienced rebuilder could do as some have purpose built transfer plates that are beyond the scope of the average hobbyist. It's really up to you, a really good valve body can be built with something like a Trans Go reprogramming kit, but it's a bit involved, or you can just buy on from Turbo Action, TCI, ATI, or any of a dozen other shops.

go to turbo actions web site and just look around at the small neglected stuff.

When I rebuilt my trans I used raybestos blue clutches. I had picked up an extra clutch for the front and rear drum took out the wave lock for a straight lock for a firmer shift. I also installed a bolt in sprag for peace of mind. I had also installed a hemi 5.0 kick down lever and turbo action piston springs, a turbo action manual v.b. and a Moroso deep aluminum trans pan.

Mancini offers a rebuild kit http://chucker54.stores.yahoo.net/mapopashreki.html

here is a site to check out different parts and prices http://www.bulkpart.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=2&Category_Code=A727

You are on the right track to ask for advice before jumping into a project like this.

Good Luck
