73 Duster speedometer reads wrong

I just installed the correct (?) speedometer gear in trans and the speedometer reads almost twice is fast as I am going ...any clues?

24.5 inch tire...

3.23 rear gears

using a 35 tooth gear...

and yes...I installed the housing with the 32-38 notch lined up with the dot on the trans..

and the cable is new also

Could be your speedometer in the instrument panel that is not calibrated correctly?..............just a guess

This says you have the wrong gear. Should be a 34.

yeah..i saw that...another one says use a 36 tooth...

but year one chart say 1 tooth off..is only 2-3 mph off at 60 mph...

this thing is way off....probably the speedometer itself..

after looking..I just took a 34 tooth gear out...lol

Yes..changed from 8 1/4 to a 8 3/4 with 3.23 gears...

I believe the orginal gear was a 33 tooth for the 3.21 gears...



anyway..i will just disconnect it...been driving it for years now without a speedo..

well...got another idea....using a rpm/tire dia/gear ratio calculator...it says at 2000 rpm I should be going 45 mph...
going to check it in the morning and see how far off I am...and then see if I can adjust it using a different speedo gear with more teeth..
