Is there a "not expensive" way to make our a-bodies handle better than they were designed to and if so what would it be.
Getting rid of the torsion bars and replacing with coil springs is possible but not cheap, right? Lowering it would mean rerout of the exaust system.

go to 1 inch or thicker torsion bars and new XHD Springs from springsn'things and a tire with a small profile so goin to like 17 inch wheels on all 4 corners and keep it lower
Also add front and rear sway bars and subframe connectors

If you defined handle a little better you could get more responses. The car is engineered to carry its weight in all types of conditions. Gravel dirt, pavement, straights, curves, hills, under acceleration, heavy braking, comfort, speed, noise, etc. Gaining a little on one thing will mean giving up on another. If you buy all new it will cost more than if you buy used. 'Course you get what you get. If you do it all yourself, this is where your true savings come in, allowing that you do it correctly. For instance, if you want to drag race you may want a six banger bar, and for interstate curves at 160 mph you might want an R/T sized torsion bar and wider tires. Tell us a specific complaint, you may just have worn components. If the problem is everything, it won't be cheap. You will need an electronically controlled 4- wheel independent suspension like a (god help me) 2013 Camaro. Not cheap.
