Would it be cost effective to have the gears changed out in my 8 1/4 thats currently under my Dart? Some years ago after I blew up my second 7 1/4 I put an 8 1/4 in. It got me BBP rear wheels and the fun of carrying two spare tires. Only dilema was the gears are 245 :sleepy5: At the time it was my driver and I needed it back on the road so I took the first rear I could find.

I have a couple of 8 3/4 housings from C bodies and the center sections (276's), one is a 741 case and the other is a 742. I could have the housing cut down to A body size but I would still need new axles as the ones I have are the kind that taper at the ends so they cant be re-splined for a body use.

Or I could wait till an A body rear comes around and drop the $800 that they usually command.

Which route would be the most cost effective?

With the c body rear end you can have the c body axles shortened. Did you get the brakes with the rear end?

I have 2 c body housings, both have brakes. Can't shorten the axles as they are the taperd type.
