I found an AHB cop car in a salvage yard.

Will the 8 1/4 axle fit in an A body that has restrictive wheel wells, like a 64-66 Barracuda, or a 67-74 Dart (non sport)?

If your talking about swapping an axle shaft from a M body rear to an A body rear its not going to fit, its too long.
If you are talking about swapping a whole rear from a M body into an A body then its a different story. The rear from the Dippy is 3 inches wider than an A body rear so you'll either have to run skinny tires in the back or get some rims with the right back spacing to center the rim in the wheelwell. Also the spring perches on the M body are the rubber isolated type and aren't in the right spot so they will have to be cut off and new ones welded in. If you want it bad enough it can be done but using an A body 8 1/4 will be easier.

Knew about the perches and isolators.
Width info for 8 3/4 is evreywhere, but 8 1/4 info is kinda scarce, as is M body info.

Thanks.

i am putting F body axle on 72 duster.
the axle is 59,8'' from drum to drum (where the wheel is).
Its about 1'' wider on each side than orginal a-body rear.
I will be putting 7'' wheels whith 4,25'' backspace and it will leave about 1'' room for both sides.
So just measure how much room y have and you see can y fit that m-body axle.
but those early a-bodys have even narrower rear...

Here a-bodys axles are quite rare so have to use what we found...

Good luck
