8 1/4 Rear End Question

I am building a 74 Duster and i was wondering how good is the 8 1/4 rear end. With a Sure-Grip, 3.55 gears and 400-450whp(shooting for having after i finish the car). Will the 8 1/4 be fine?

Are we talking 450 at crank or at wheels?

I think it would be a bit shaky, esp if it hooks.

probably 400whp. Would like to have 450whp but that mite be out of reach. Also i will be running DR tires

Oh they're out there but you gotta pay to get them. For the cost it might be cheaper to order up a strange dana 60

Ok, ill check for that. How much power can the 8 1/4 handle?

You can always have a C-body rear narrowed to A-body width.Plenty of C-body rears at the wreckers.I bought a complete C-body rear for $100,with .489 center.I had it narrowed to my specs.You,d be chancing the 8 1/4 with over 400hp.JMO.
