8.25 suggestions

My 72 duster slant six currently still has the stock 7 1/4 rear and I would like to upgrade to a 8 1/4 sure grip with 3.55 gear ratios.
I currently have an 8 1/4 open rear from a 75 slant six dart not sure of the gear ratio.
Would I be better off just buying a sure grip or would I be able to modify the open one i already have
And i would also like to convert to disc brakes any input is appreciated thanks.

What gear ratio is in the 8.25 now as the carrier is different for the 2.45 and 2.71 compared to the 2.94 and up.

The rear was given to me when I bought the car not sure what ratio there is no tag on it but it is the offset carrier
