Well its Another night of beating my knuckles down but I got the 45 year old A-body 8 3/4 rear that sat outside apart and ready to pull the center chunk....The dam axels just didn't want to come out peacefully and I don't have a puller or even a drum so I pounded the **** out of the backing plated woth a rubber mallet till they gave in and came out....what do the white marks on axels mean??

looks like a paint. more than likely they are a factory marking of some kind, probably an inspection or a certain line they were meant to go too.

I don't know exactly what every color means, but I do know that a pink swatch means that the axle is made with steel of a high nitride composition, and used in HD applications! I have a set here with yellow paint!!

Just to help out for future endeavors....that rubber mallet needs to be benched, and a quality 3lb deadblow will serve you well, trust me..
