Has anybody tried using a drain plug kit for an automatic transmission pan in the bottom of the housing of an 8 3/4?

I have not, but I would think you would be better off installing a 3/8" NPT plug. I used a flush fit plug with the hex head so I could use an allen wrench to remove it. Drill, tap with the pipe tap not standard and locktite the plug and install. If you are going to do this make sure and set it off to the side of the ring gear so there is no chance for interference. The flush fit plug also allows for using a jack under the pig without damaging the plug.
