I have a few basic questions that most of you may know and will help me to better understand what I have & how to replace some things.
I have a 74 Dart Sport I beleive the 8 3/4 rear is original. I have the build sheet & under "axle" it has 248. Is thier a way to find out if it is the original?
Also when measuring the rear drums what exactly are you measuring to find drum size & bolt pattern ? I admit I'm a little stupid when it comes to drum sizes & bolt patterns but would like to better understand it. I know it is probably not that difficult to figure out but I would like to replace the rear drums & don't want to order the wrong size. Thanks. Steve.

Like 7demon2 said, last year for an 8 3/4 in an a-body was 1972.

Take off the drum and measure the inside diameter and the width of the shoe contact area or measure the shoe width itself.

Well it's not the original. It does have the casting # 2881489 on it.
after reading up on it, it sounds like it was made from 1969-74. I would say it is probably better than the original. Does any one know about the build sheet #248 under the axle line?
