8-3/4 question

I did some reading and searches. Just wanted to confirm with those in the know.
I am in the process of buying a 8-3/4" open differential chrysler rear end.
Question is, can I just change the 3rd member with a sure grip unit?

in short...yes
in long, I believe (im sure someone will correct me if I am wrong) you can take ANY 8 3/4 sure grip unit, from ANY case and install it in ANY other 8 3/4 case

so you do not need to buy an entire third member, just the sure grip unit will do

I forget the year you can "Just swap" them. Very early 8-3/4's are not just swapable. I do believe it is a axle spline issue. Buuuuut, I am not 100% on this.

BTW, it's from a 72 duster, 742 case.

The axles are 30 spline so any 8 3/4 diffential with 30 spline count should work
