Hello Mopar Brothers and Sisters. I have an 8 3/4 rear end in a 489 case with a suregrip. At some point I would like to have another for a spare or at least the carrier. The question of the day is. If I happen to stumble across one, Is there any way to identify if a 8 3/4 rear end is a suregrip by looking at it (is there an identifying mark) without taking the cover off? Thanks in advance Ron D

Have both wheels off the ground, Have someone hold one wheel, while you turn the driveshaft/pinion. If both wheels try to turn the same direction it is either a limited slip or a spool. If one wheel trys to turn the opposet direction. it is a open rear.

Some 8 3/4 have a round tag on one of the carrier studs that calls for sure grip additive. And BTW there is no cover to remove on an 8 3/4, it's a 3rd member carrier chunk like a Ford 9"
