8 3/4 sure grip

I have a 8 3/4 sure grip that came out of a 74 pick up, it feels like there is something stuck in it. It will only spin part of the way around, can these be rebuilt or is it junk?

if its a bind in the gearset you should be ok...but the cone type sure-grip is a non-rebuildable unit, although you can take it apart if there is some other trash stuck in it.

I was thinking of selling it cause I got a dana 60 to put in the dart since I'm going with a stroked big block

You can rebiuld the cone type. I cant find the article now but you just need to machine the outer face of the cone I believe.035. I think it was in high performance mopar mag a few years bck.

Cones are rebuildable and it takes machining about .030 off the cones and a shim.

If you have some old 727 front clutch springs laying around
you can add them inside the original springs.{IIRC}
