8 3/4 u bolts what length???

Can anyone tell me which is the correct size for 8 3/4 u bolts??? I have heard 3x7 and 3x8"... I am switching out from a 7 1/4 to 8 3/4 Have the complete rear end with shock plates. just need u bolts and also looking for a posi center section w/3:55 or 3:91 gears.. Thanks

Why not just measure? just figure 3 inches for tube and add for plate,1inch for nuts and washers and another inch or 2 to hang thru the nuts. 7 should be fine. Is this a concours resto. If not get the 8s and cut off the extra. Only thing that matters is they are open 3 inches.

7" x 3" is plenty, I bought 8" and after installing with everything tightened down I have way too much left that I need to cut.

Notice in the pic how much is left.

Something to think about. The length is not the overall total in most cases. It's from the axle centerline or the straight section of the u-bolt.

The stock 8.75" rear ones I have are 7" overall and 5.5" for the straight section

I looked at the picture at Summit.
Those are just regular common U/bolts that will collapse your tubes.
Mopar U/bolts have the part that goes around the axle Flat!
