Ok, I am wanting to rplace my wheel cylinders. All i can find at the local car parts places are what appears to be the right size diameter cylinders but the mounting bolts are a smaller diameter than what i have. i do not want to take a chance of these not being properly secured. The bolt holes on the backing plates arnt holes at all but slotted so the right diameted bolt seems to be important.

Any idea where I can find relacement cylinders? P/N would be very helpful. Thankd FABO

could you put a washer on it?

I seem to remember that part of the cylinder where the hose fastens on sticks out & fits into a hole in the backing plate to kind of "lock" it into place, to keep it from moving?

Yeah it locks there, bolts have no pressure on them, just keep it on the backing plate. It is pushing in both directions at once, kinda in a neutral pressure stance. Different bolts has been going on for years, no problem.

Why not simply rebuild them? I cannot remember the last time I bought wheel cylinders. The parts store dolts are always too stupid to get the right ones anyway.

I bought new ones because my car hadn't been driven since around 1980. I was afraid of what I might find inside them. Might be more than my poor little ol' hone could handle!

All of the new ones I have seen are the smaller 1/4 bolt and factory was 5/16 so if ya want 5/16 you need to hone and save yours.

Thanks for all the advice guys, I too want to install new ones due to how old the existing ones are. If I use the new ones with the 1/4 in bolts, has anyone ever tried to drill and tap the holes to match the 5/16 in bolts? is it even adviseable?
