Quick question. Is the 8.25 rear technically 8 3/8. I ask because the build sheet says 8 3/8

I'm guessing that is a date or a manufacturers code number.

I stand corrected!

My understand always was that the 8.25 was the open differential and the 8 3/8 was the sure grip.

My '80 Dodge D150 came with a 8 3/8. 2.71 gear open. I have the original build sheet. Just call it a 8.25

My 75 d100 had 8-3/8 in it i put crown/pinion in from 8.25

What car/year is this from. My 73 dart build sheet just has a box that says axle and the code is 002. Its a 3.21 sure grip 8.25 rear.

Yes both are the same. Dad worked in a dodge dealership for 16 years from 1965-1979 and parts guys always were uniformed about the 8.25 and 8 3/8. My dad new by working on the cars and trucks that they were one in the same.
