I recentrly pulled my 66 8.75 apart to paint and inspect and install new flange gaskets and was wondering how the axle bearings lube as there is a seal between the bearing and differential. The bearings are not later sealed green bearings they are open race bearings. Does the axle seal let lube thru to the end tube bearing and not allow water in the diff or do these older bearings need to be greased?

The bearings need to be greased, the oil seal is to keep the oil in the axle and not to let any oil into the bearings.

if you have a grease gun you can buy a needle attachment that allows you to inject grease deep into the bearing. works great and was fairly cheap. me thinks i got them at napa

thank yawl for the info. This`is`Exactly what I thought but was hoping otherwise. At least i was paying attention and didnt run them dry.thanks:hello2:
