where would I find the date code on a 489 carrier is it the number before the 489 ? I don't see anymore numbers anywhere .

What number do you have. The date code is a 4 digit number on a pad that looks like a screw on tag. Same side as the 489 casting number

on that screw tag it says DOT Or that's what it looks like .

Sorry, I misspoke, it could be a 3 or 4 digit number. Here's a 741 case. Yours should be very similar.
