I just bought drum and shoes and hardware to redo 69 9''ers, im at a buddies place to drill out drums to lbp, and stumbled across 2 10'' backing plates......score......so as i well know every action has a reaction, so do i just need to swap up drums shoes ect to 10'' stuff and or what else is involved, will wheel cyl be the same? thanks for the info
Sorry 8 3/4 rear

Width of the linings makes a difference in hold down pin length. Park brake mechanisms different. In other words just about everything will be different.

Axle width is different for 9" rear ends. I don't believe larger brakes can be adapted.

Are you swapping in aftermarket axles with the large bolt pattern or redrilling your old ones for LBP?

My screw up no 9"ers they are 10x1 3/4 pads on 10" the other 10" backing plates have a much deeper recess though I have stock 8 3/4 axle drilled to lbp and need to order drums and shoes to fit

You have no option but to redrill the drums from the A body 8-3/4. No other drums will have both the correct offset AND the smaller center register. You need both or it will not work.

Which axle are we talking about? When you said you had 9" brakes, I automatically assumed you had a 7 1/4" rear end. To the best of my knowledge, ALL A-body 8 3/4" axles had 10" brakes. To change these, use the appropriate backing plate/drums, redrill or replace the shafts and Bob's your uncle.

If it is a 7 1/4" axle with 9" drums it is not so easy. The 9" brakes themselves were narrower, and therefore the housing was wider. Best bet here would be to swap the whole rear end for a later big bolt pattern unit, all of which should have 10" brakes.
