Was trying to fit my renovated 904 on my 318 and after many bad words i figured out that the crankshaft aligment hole is just 40mm, and the "plug" on converter is 45mm.
So i tried to use my old converter that fits, but on the new 904 the inner axel is 22mm, the old one had 20mm, so it wont fit on the new tranny.
My first question is, is there a converter with 40mm guidance "plug" and splines to fit a 22mm axel?
Second: Is the "plug" massive? can i "grind" it down to 40mm?

Sorry for some words, couldn´t figure out what it is called in English, i hope you all can figure out what i meen.

If your saying the bolts hit there is a low profile bolt heads that you need to use.

Not the bolts, the aligment "plug" (dont know Eng word) in the center of converter that aligns with the hole in the crankshaft is to big on te converter that fist on the tranny.

What year is your car? That would possibly explain why you're having problems. If your car (or the engine is a 67 and earlier) it takes the small converter hub. 68 and newer engines take a converter with a larger hub. Additionally, the converters will not interchange frpom pre-67 to post-68 because the spline count in the front pump is different. That would explain why your old converter fits the crankshaft but does not fit the new transmission. Hope this helps.

After some research i have figured that out too, i thought it would work since i have an engine block from around mid 70´s, but it looks like there is an older crankshaft in the engine, perhaps from the same engine where my -66 heads originate from.
But my questions remain, can i get it to fit in any way?
Can i grind down the converter hub to the smaller size?

Edit car specs:
-76 318 block with hydraulic lifters, Cast: 4006730-318-4
-67 heads, Cast: 2658920-3
340 cam, no idea of year.

A converter that has the small hub that fits your crankshaft and that will fit into a later transmission would have to be custom made. I'm not a transmission expert but don't think a large hub converter can be turned to fit a smaller hub crankshaft. The crank could be turned to accept your new converter though. Hope this provides some assistance.

I ran into this on a 273 with a cable shifted and might add, "rigged" 904 that was in a 70 Duster I bought years ago. I tried to find a converter to fit the crank of the old smaller crank hole but fit a later trans. I gave up. Like was said above, your going to have one custom made.

I almost a little bit ashame, lol.
When thinking some more about it i figured that because i have an 70´s engine block they must have put in a crank earlier then -68, and why would they do that?
So after looking closer at the engine (my father looked earlier and mesured the hole to 40mm) , i found out that it is the new crank with the 46mm aligment hole, they just have made a spacer down to 40mm and pressed in.

So now im back on track, but thanks for all help so far, good to get some year info on the hub sizes etc..
