Hello all:
Let me start off by saying I've never had a transmission apart before and now on with the question.
I have a small block 904 that I disassembled with the thought of rebuilding it I removed the pan to install a shift kit and I found water in it so to be safe I thought i'd open it up to inspect and learn. I bought it with the understanding that it had been rebuilt already. Once i got it apart I noticed that the low reverse band was red, does this make it a kohlene band? and the clutches were also red with a checkerboard pattern in them. Also the low/reverse band, how thick is the material on the band?, this one seems pretty thin but i have no idea how thin or thick the band is new. Now that i've got it apart I'll reseal it with all new seals but if the rest of the trans is already built I want to leave it alone.
I've read the heck out of the transmission thread and just haven't found the info on this subject but have found tons of info on everything else I'll need so I thank all of you.
