Hi Guys,

i do have two 904´s here to rebuild, one for me, the other one for my brother. I read in another thread that the 998/999 transmissions do have two reinforcing ribs above the rear servo.....the 904´s don´t have them. Both of the trannies i do have here have these ribs.....so i assume these must be 998 / 999´s.

Is there another way to identify for sure? I disassembled the first one (no. 3681843), it has got 4 pinion planetaries and if i remember correctly 4 clutch discs.

The other one is number 4028464, just did not have time to get into it. Maybe someone can give me more info....wanna learn something new!

Thanks!

Michael

3681843 is a 74 tans behind a 318....

4028464 is a 76-77 trans behind a 318...

Have you confirmed if they are lock-up or non lock-up transmissions? 3/4" machined surface at the shaft tip indicated a lock-up.

I hate to intrude on another members thread but, I also am wanting to build a healthy 904 behind my little 318/390 stroker. Please...any help from people who know would be so much help! What is the best street tough sometimes strip tranny to build? Thanks in advance!

Loco, can you post a picture of this machines flat area on LU trannies?

took picture of old 904, 998 trans...has the ribs on it

cast number dates it back to 67 or 68

Hi Guys,

these are both non lock up transmissions, no machined input shaft.....

I´d just like to know if there´s anything "special" to these transmissions. What about these ribs in the case? is this for sure a indication to say it´s a 998 or 999?

Any measurements i can do to make sure i get the right clutches?

Is there a way to check the first gear ratio? I´d like to know the ingredients when i put them together.

Thanks for Info!

Michael
