HI Guys,

We have a 904 newly built and it will not shift hard at all, it is firm but no second gear scratch. it has a TCI 122400 valve body and a 3500 stall converter. The tranny shop blames the high stall converter??? Does anyone have any ideas if this is true or is something else wrong? I think it should shift hard regardless of stall at full power.

The shifter can run in manual or auto and this is the second valve body in the tranny, with no improvement tin the shift.

Specs
340/ 904 / 323 / 28 inch tires

Thoughts?

High stalls are mushy until they get past their stall speed. A quick look at what you've posted, to me anyway, shows too much stall.
It would help if you posted what the engine has had done to it, and if it's been on a dyno. What or who suggested the 3500 stall?
A quick check at Randy's Ring and Pinion website, shows via one of their calculators that at 60MPH your engine is only turning over at about 2400RPM, 1100 below the converters stall. Not a good combination.
Let us know what you've done to the engine. Don't think the valve body has anything to do with it. Is the trans stock, or just had the valve body installed.

Band adjustment......1 1/2 turns backed off on bolt adjuster.
Holding 10 inch pounds on adjuster bolt bolt -- tightened or finger tight-- then tighten lock nut,--Front band **kick down band.
Out side case--drivers side

Low gear +++ reverse band.
2 turns loose after tight.
Inside case under pan---pass, side.

This is very important for shift speed and how hard it hits.

A 3500 stall speed should not make a big difference.

If all is well with the bands then i would think it's the valve body.
Get a turbo action cheetah valve body.
