Any tips on getting the bolts in on the bellhousing to the block? I am specifically looking at tricks for the top 4 bolts. The bottom two are not that bad. Anything is useful. I have the car on jack stands so it is not on a lift.

Thanks, Mike

small fingers.....or bolts with smaller heads..

get the bell on the dowels and put in the two lower bolts ( not tight just on) and then without a crossmember, lower the rear of the trans but not too low so the distributor doesn't jam into the firewall. with the rear of the trans lowered, it should create a window to get to the upper bell bolts from under the car with a ratchet extension.

An A-body should have enough room between the firewall and engine to get them from the top as well, unless you have really big hands. I usually sit on the inner fender and get them from the top. (without a hood of course)

The easiest way I've found to get the top 2 is to take the distributor out and jack the trans up as high as it'll go. That gives you a little bigger window to get your hand down in there to get them. The middle ones are the hardest and Rani's method of lowering the trans works as good as it gets for them. Once you get them started use a 9/16" swivel socket on at least 2 foot (3' works even better) of extensions and the ratchet will be down where you can reach it easier.

I lower the motor down so it sits on the steering center link and use the long extensions and a swivel socket like fishy said. I also wrap the socket with a couple of rounds electrical tape to keep it from flopping around so much.
