904 Transmission internals Swap

I have a good 904 transmission behind a slant six in working order. I'm going for a 318 swap and need a V8 transmission.

Is it possible to swap over all the /6 transmission's internals to a small block - 904 housing? Both are 904's right?

Just wanted to check if this could work and if anyone else has done it before. Thanks

It can if they are 68 up or 67 back. But the six has less clutches therefore is a weaker unit. Kim

You have to keep the forward drum with the same pump. You can use forward drum lower pressure plates in place of both the top pressure plates to install an extra clutch in each six cyl drum.
