904 v. 727

Will a 904 witha HD rebuild kit work as well as a 727? I am putting together an A body with a 318 with less than 300 hp. I do have a good 727 core. However, I am considering the drive shaft lenght issue and wondering should I go back with a 904. Any suggerstions?

a good rebuilt 904 will handle anything that 318 can throw at it...

Been drag racing iwth 904s since 1993 with transbrakes....

I'd use a 904. It'll live forever behind a 300 hp 318 and be faster and get better fuel mileage because they consume less hp to spin them than a 727 does. All you need is a good stock rebuild really but a Trans-go TF-2 will make a nice improvement. Hearing it bark the tires on the shifts is always neat.
