A 1974 Duster - My 2nd one, 41 years later!

Well the info that I found online...might have been the correct measurement for his car...but it isn't going to work for mine. If you have a 74' automatic/power steering column and are converting to manual, adding 2 1/2" of 3/4" rod is NOT enough. 3 7/8" is the correct amount I should have added. As you can see in the pic I am about 7/8" short at max extension. Adding an extra 1/2" will allow it to operate in the middle of the Mopar joint. Ugh! Gotta do some more welding.

Alex can you use some double D rod and some u joints. I have a 70 auto column if you need it.

Yeah, I know. I will add another 1 3/8" of round 3/4". It will work then. Thanks for the offer Dave,.....but I'm determined to get the column in and working.

^ Yes I know, sorry for the delay! LOL! I had to order the steel to extend the steering, it arrived yesterday. I did put the passenger door back together also. I'll be welding on the steering today or tomorrow.

Inching forward...steering shaft done and installed. The total amount of 3/4" round cold rolled steel added to make this column work with a manual gear was 3 3/4" to 3 7/8". Worked for me.

Drivers seat installed, soldering iron trick for seat holes, burning through the carpet from under the car works great! Time to tune, clutch adjust....put it in gear!

Pretty quiet over here....is that Plymouth done yet! Do we need to start chanting more car ****! all joking aside my first car was a slant 6 Duster. Did all the work paint rebuilt everything made her like new. Mom got me new car graduation made me sell her. I never appreciated it till years later. These cars are a great trip down memory lane!

Sometimes life gets in the way. I was at Higgs house last night discussing my car and his car plans (he is building a 408), we'll be getting my car tuned up/running soon. Possibly this coming Saturday or the following Saturday.

Alex, looking great, now we want the truth. You sat in there and made vroom vroom sounds didn't you.

Thanks for the "online" friends motivational push. Just installed the drivers door glass and interior pieces. So both doors are done now.

Its great to see things done. I know sometimes it is ugh not right now. But that interior looks phenomenal just like the rest of the car. Just wait till you think hmm maybe I should add this....oh and this would great to...

The little stuff. Got the drivers side carpet glued down to the contours of the floor, new sill plates installed. Got the wiper thingy's bolted in. Just got to tidy up the wiring and wire in the Tach. Not this weekend (I have things going on) but the next weekend Higgs and I will fire it up, tune it (set the IAC) and get the clutch adjusted. Hopefully a video of her idling at 1000-1200 rpm's. That's the plan.

^ We certainly will need a supervisor, you know how the Higgs and I are! I'll keep you in the loop and call you when I know more. Higgs is out of town golfing this weekend, and I have band/music stuff that needs getting done.....So it is next weekend. If I'm not in the Duster...I sure have fun getting in the groove!

Brakes got bled, clutch all adjusted, alignment done....Aeromotive fuel pump would not send fuel to Fitech unit. Pulled Fuel pump out to take a look, as it had 12v being delivered to the fuel pump....Fuel pump was burned up. No clue why??? Ordered another one. Hurry up and wait.
