A-Body Round #2- My '76 Scamp restore...

-
I did that way and used a bottle with hose filled with fluid about halfway worked great. The hose you connect to the bleeder loose. I taped the top hose in hole cap it's a vacuum seems to be easy fix. Oh chocolate milk from 7 eleven or QT small 12 ounce worked great lol! Obviously drink the milk first clean it out hahaha. The bottle lets you bleed brakes solo.
I also have a vacuum bleeder, works great for pulling fluid thru a dry system.

Completely unrelated to my resto or A-bodies, but I'm sure y'all will understand... Pretty excited for my son- my dad bought this Challenger SE about 5 years ago with intentions to occasionally drive it until his grandson was old enough to pass it on to... that day came today- he's not quite driving age yet, but pops wanted to go ahead and get it done. Needs brakes and a lot of cleaning, but the boy is on cloud 9 and spent all evening cleaning up interior....gonna be fun teaching him what I know!

Picked up a big pile of parts today from a fellow member here... Gonna try my hand at rebuilding this 383... if it goes well, we may end up seeing it in the Scamp eventually...

I really would rather suck the bumpers in, shorten them a little, and rechrome to get rid of the bumper fillers, but hitting them with plasti-dip has made a big improvement at much less effort and will be good enough until I can get to doing them more thoroughly.

Got a big chunk of the 383 torn apart tonight. Found the ugly cylinder that has it seized. Next thing I'll do is flip it over, pull the crank, and see if I can't drive the piston out... At least that's my best guess as a first-timer trying to tear an engine apart.

Might be worth putting some penetrating oil in that cylinder and letting it soak while you do other things.

I would use transmission fluid. put a cup or more in and let it sit a few days. Then a few taps with a block of wood and a hammer and it might just free up. Doesn't actually look that bad.

I have a 51 and a 49 international truck and both were stuck. Thats what I used to free them up. Filled each cylinder and let it sit during the 25 hour drive from my brothers to home. Once I got home the 49 was already free and the 51 I was able to turn on the flywheel.

There was a family cookout at my folks house up in Ohio this weekend. Weather looked good and I'd been wanting to stretch the Scamps legs a bit, so took it... Put on about 550 miles between Fri-Sun and it ran perfect the whole time!

Great weather!

My son stayed up late the night before leaving so he spent the first half of the trip like this...lol...

And I was very happy with the cars performance...

Also got to see the GTX my uncle got a year or so ago for the first time. I'd seen pics but not the real thing yet. She's Purdy! (This was a video some guy took of it at a car show- Ironically it had come up in my youtube feed recently and I thought it was his. Asked him and he was as surprised to see the video as I was)

All in all a great trip!

So, I loaded an app to measure 0-60, 1/8 mile, etc...

Ended up with 12.9 seconds for 1/8 mile and about 14.2 seconds for 0-60... used an online calculator that converts 1/8 mile time to HP and found out its got roughly 78 HP at the flywheel...

Lol...thats pathetic.... I still love the car, but damn!

Love the rear stance. Did you lower the rear. Doing the same thing but haven’t pick out wheel and tire combo. Was thinking of 17s.

Thanks!

Rear was lowered a little just by using the Hotchkis leaf springs which lowered it about an inch I believe. I went with 225/45/18 wheels and tires- the handling with the lower profile sidewalls is way better than it was with the old 14s, and it makes the nice brakes be better eye candy.
