A little Turbo Selection Help

I can talk forced induction theory all day long. I've built a few roots blown engines in the past with good success, so forced induction isn't foreign to me. But I don't have very much first hand experience with turbos. I have one tentatively chosen. It's here:

I know it may be a little small and that's the point. I want to get my feet wet without tearing chit up. I don't want any more than a max of maybe 8PSI and probably more like 6. I need to learn how to tune and such before I start pumping a lot of air into the engine. Keep in mine this will be a 100% stock slant 6 build other than the turbo and a Holley 500 CFM two barrel. So what do yall think about my turbo choice? Will it work? Thanks.
 
Looking at the specs for that, I think they are being very optimistic when they say “up to 420hp” for that size compressor. That being said, I think you’re in the ballpark for a 225 on the sizing. I hate internally wastgated turbos and I’d rather see you use an external waste gate but that adds cost and complexity. What is your hp goal? That is the most important piece of the puzzle in turbo selection.
 
Also, what fuel are you using?
Intercooled or not?
And what are you planning to do to the Holley 500 to make it boost ready? Hopefully you’re considering the hanger18 mods.

Unsure about an intercooler. I'm not going to cut the car up so that will probably limit me. Yes, I have the hanger 18 site saved. I've already looked that over.

I'm not worried about "420hp". I don't know. Haven't really thought about it yet. All I want to do at this point is get the engine built and get it in the car and running and then I'll see how it acts and start tuning it. Maybe 300? 325? And I don't mean just a time or two. I want it reliable and I want it to last.

300-325hp is a very healthy slant and I’m gonna guess you’ll need good fuel (race gas or ethanol) and 15 or so psi to get there. I would definitely intercool it, a small air to air is easy and it’s free horsepower (and detonation resistance) and I would recommend the turbo below for it.

I have a small air to air intercooler that’s brand new that I’ll send you for the cost of shipping if I can convince you to use it.
 
At 6-8 psi of boost is around 1.5 x NA hp. Need about 200 NA hp to make 300 hp with boost.

If it'll fit without hacking the car to pieces, I might would. Space between the core support and grille is tight.

Well then that's not gonna happen, is it? That would be like turbocharging the present engine in the car, which I cannot do since it's at 10.2:1. Thanks for that formula.

Any chance you’ll run corn juice in it? Or strictly 91-93 gas? I think with E85 10.2:1 is do-able. It’ll certainly let you light the turbo off a bit faster.

I’m stoked you’re thinking this, turbo slant sixes are awesome.

Around 14.7 psi basically doubles NA power every 5 psi is about a 3rd of NA power.
Eg.. 5 psi 1.33 x NA, 10 psi 1.66 x NA etc.. There's is a more accurate formula out there, this is just how I guesstimate it.

You absolutely can turbocharge the current engine at 10.2:1. Just need the right fuel with enough octane. Any E85 near you?
