Seriously, I think it's plenty strong, it was standard behind the 340 and some 383 cars.
 
It was never behind a challenger or cuda if that's what you were referring to with the T/A comment. It came behind slants, and 318's, possibly others, but I have never heard of it used with anything else. They will definately take the abuse of a small block, as I currently have one that was behind a 318 that I abused for a year in my 74 Duster. The only 'bad' thing about it is there is a big rpm drop when shifting from 1 - 2.
