Hi guys,

I’m in the process of switching from automatic to 4 speed. I have an A833 (1970) and am looking for the correct Hurst Shifter Mechanism along with the rods and linkage.

1968 Barracuda with a 340

I’ve attached images of the casting numbers on the trans, if you need more info let me know. Thanks in advance.

Thats a tough one to answer because there are no part numbers on shift rods so its a visual ID.

Yea that’s what makes it hard. But the Hurst Shifters have casting numbers. Hard part is, there are a variety of answers.

Also want to add that I WILL HAVE A CENTER CONSOLE

It is a 1971 transmission, but that will not affect your proposed plan.

Yes the shifter handle and plate have numbers so they are easy . But the rods....urghh .. I had a box of shift rods and had a hard time figuring out which was which . Trying to describe or identify in a pic makes it all that harder .

The 1971 model year began in August of 1970.

1971 model year final assembly date and 1971 model year partial VIN too. ;-)

Ok that’s good to know. Thanks for that information.

Hoping someone with a 68 Barracuda who’s made the swap before sees my thread

Find the handle first. then the matching factory Hurst, then use a 6350 mounting plate, and 68 up a body levers and rods. Brewer's Performance - Mopar A833 4-Speed Transmission and Component Specialists Looks like using the bolt on Hurst shifter for this one.

This is the stick I have now. But it seems to have a different than the one that comes up in the Brewers link.

the 68 hurst shifter handle is a one year only. The mechanism and rods are the same 68 to 71

the handle looks like a 69 to 71 but shorter
not mine here just a reference picture
I have it

that is the one. but that is an aftermarket one that does not say hurst on it.

Your Handle is a 64 or 65 A body Hurst handle. The shifter in the link is a reproduction of the Hurst console handle. Here is a link to an original, if it was available. Brewer's Performance - Mopar A833 4-Speed Transmission and Component Specialists . Here is a link for the shifter you need. Brewer's Performance - Mopar A833 4-Speed Transmission and Component Specialists . And while we are at it, the rods and arms. Thanks for the links. I plan on calling Wayne at Brewers today and getting to the bottom of this. Glad I posted this thread, hopefully all these links will help others that are in my same situation

I’m glad I found this thread. I also have a 1968 Barracuda with a 340 and would like to convert to a A-833. It is a 71 transmission. I do have all of the shifter linkages, but no shifter. I also have an auto center console at the moment and sounds like it’s possible to do this swap with my set up. I’m sure I’ll be asking questions on this thread at some point.
