My A904 was working great.Has a Turbo Action pro street valve body.Part # 17676.Would shift threw all the gears no problem. Now when put into 1st gear the car act like the brakes are on.Will not move.2nd gear acts the same as 3rd gear.No RPM change.Fluid level good and condition is good.Drop the pan and had a look at the filter.Looked good, but replaced anyway. This trans was in the car when I bought it along with the valve body,so dont know much about it.Any ideas about what I should be looking for/at.

Sounds like it's stuck in 2nd gear. Does reverse work correctly? If so check the front band adjustment first. I can't imagine it tightening up on it's own but it's something to check. If the band adjustment checks ok it must be a stuck valve in the valve body. You didn't say but I assume this is a manual shift valve body?? If so it's highly modified from stock so I'm not sure what to tell you to look for. You'll just have to carefully take it apart and check for a stuck valve somewhere. If this is an automatic shift valve body I'd suspect a stuck governor. Maybe a piece of grit got in it and hung it up. Since you say the fluid condition was good I assume you didn't find much debris in the pan?

pan was actually vary clean.Reverse works great.Seems to be stuck in 3rd gear.Had the car on the freeway and the RPMs where they should be.Was thinking something in valve body was stuck. Will pull this week end and take apart. This may be my chance to upgrade to a TCI super street fighter 727 with a 2400 stall.

You never said if it's a automatic shift valve body or full manual shift. Assuming it's a full manual in which case I can't help with any specific ideas, just check everything over. If it's an automatic shift and you have a pressure gauge you can check the governor pressure and see what it looks like. Should be nearly zero (no more than 1.5~2 psi max) when the trans is in gear but the wheels aren't turning. It's possible it's a stuck governor. If the pressure checks ok it's quite possible it's the 2-3 shift valve stuck.

Have you read the sticky on TCI transmissions? It's at the top of the page. Their valve bodies seem to be ok but I rarely here of anyone that's happy with one of their complete transmission's in a Mopar.

The vavle body is manual/auto.When put in 3rd-drive does not shift up-seems to be in third gear all the time. Not sure if thats the way its intended to be or not.I bought the car with no motor,4 dry rot tires and terable to no brakes,so only had it out a few times before this problem came up.Sounds like I have some more reading/research to do b/4 buying a trans if can not get this one fixed.

Couldn't a locked up front planetary set do this?

If you do go the route of buying one get one from a Mopar specific trans shop. Generally much better than buying an off the shelf mass produced unit like TCI sells.
