AC Accumulator Drier - Just passing along an FYI

After leak testing I found the sight glass on my drier is the location of the refrigerant leak. It couldn't be repaired, so I checked with four classic car AC parts vendors with no luck. One of my refrigeration techs at work told me to check with the parts department at Thermoking, the company that makes cooling systems for transport. Took the drier by the local TK parts department and they had one on the shelf for $35.00. Exact dimensions and everything. Turns out they also fabricate refrigerant hoses on site as well. He also mentioned that some locations rebuild compressors. Seems like a good source for AC parts.

It this info could be rewritten with phone numbers or web address, this is fantastic news and also should be a sticky thread. AC parts or rebuilding is getting harder to come by these days.

The Drier is a Fleet Source brand, part # 7152. 3/8" flare inlet/outlet, compatible with R-12, R-22, and R-134a. I'm not sure if this would be a direct drop-in for all Mopar AC systems, as I'm fairly new to Mopar and the AC in this car appears to be a dealer add-on Mopar system. Plus, one never knows what a previous owner may have hacked up. :)

Glad to, pics are below. As a reminder, this is a replacement for what was installed in the car either by the dealer or a previous owner. So I'm not sure if it's considered original. But Thermo King can supply just about any drier used in automotive/transport applications.

I got mine from rockauto.

Dang near identical to the one that came off my '73.


IIRC it was about $25 and $6 shipping, and it came with the pressure switch.

You can buy the dryers at John Deere as well. They used them for years on tractors.
 
That is not right for an OEM early A unfortunately.

Thanks for sharing that. Were these mounted on/at the condenser, or in the engine bay on the passenger side? It's apparent that mine isn't an OEM job that somebody hacked together, since they used soft/rolled copper for the line between the drier and the condenser. Granted, they did a beautiful job, but it obviously isn't OEM.

I think there's a good chance that TK could match these base on orientation of fittings.

They lay on their side on top of the RH inner fender.
 
Just a "side" comment. I would not get hung up on a with/ without sight glass. I have been stung bad trying to judge a system charge based on sight glass in certain situations, AKA high load and hot OD temps. Since then I have NEVER simply charged a system while depending only on a sight glass

Agreed. While helpful, the sight glass is just one piece of the puzzle when charging.
